A celebrated show for dog enthusiasts.
What is Crufts?
Hosted by the Kennel Club, it’s a dog event which honours all aspects of dogs’ importance in our lives. It has drastically evolved since it was created by founder Charles Cruft – but still clearly shares his love of dog showmanship.
The dog show is still a huge element of the festival, as it honours the special bond that dogs have with their owners. Judges are taught to award prizes solely to healthy dogs to foster appropriate breeding of healthy dogs.
An acknowledgement of dogs
It acknowledges and celebrates working dogs who are strong and healthy enough to fulfil the jobs for which they were bred. Some of the awards going to these hard-working dogs are ‘Gamekeeper classes’, ‘Humanitarian Action of the Year Award’ and ‘Friends for Life competition’.
A celebration of rescue dogs
There are a number of competitions aimed solely at celebrating the amazing rescue dogs in our lives. For example, competitions to measure speed and agility with competitions of heelwork to music and flyball.
Why is Crufts good for new and prospective dog owners?
If you’re thinking of welcoming a dog into your family – it’s a great opportunity to meet and talk with Kennel Club Assured Breeders, dog rescue organisations and other breed experts. It’s a great place to find expert dog advice on how to responsibly buy, train and enjoy life with your new pet.
It’s also a great opportunity to explore the hundreds of trade stands with everything a dog lover needs (and more!).
