Are you looking for a majestic, gentle breed that enjoys plenty of outdoor play time?
The American Bully (sometimes called a Bully Pit) is a mixed breed between the American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier.
This breed is selectively bred to produce puppies with a soft and mellow personality.
They are often confused for being an American Pit Bull terrier thanks to some of their similar features. However, they were purposely genetically pushed away from Pit Bulls.
Did you know?
This breed was only recognised by the United Kennel Club in 2013.
Why are American Bullies so popular?
- They were bred by passionate dog owners who were looking for a dog with an athletic build but a low fighting drive.
- They do well in homes with or without kids!
- They are medium shedders – which means that your hoover will thank you. Their short coat still needs weekly brushing to keep in tip top shape though.
- They have variations in size and colour, so offer a wide range of choices.
- With proper training and a high-quality breed, they can become incredibly independent.

Things to consider....
- This breed is known for being quite slobbery and have a natural tendency to drool. Reasons for an American Bully to drool could be anything from smelling food, being excited for a walk or even smelling a dog of the opposite gender.
- They also require walks twice a day (in perfect scenarios) with at least 30-60 minutes exercise daily. However, this loyal and mellow breed will thank you for taking the time to exercise them properly by being affectionate.
- They can be susceptible to ‘Cherry Eye’ which is an eye disorder affecting the third eyelid (yes – dogs have 3 eyelids!) and to dysplasia which is a degeneration of the joints.
