Are you a loving, active and outdoorsy household looking for your furry best friend?
The Border Collie is a perfect pet for confident or experienced owners. They are thought to be one of the most intelligent dogs and so will need plenty of mental as well as physical stimulation. Positive, reward-based training from an early age works well.
They are loyal and loving dogs who thrive with active owners who want their dog to join them on adventures. Typically, they need at least 2 hours exercise a day. Where possible, this should be broken down into multiple walks to help entertain them. A bored Border Collie can get into trouble!
Border Collie Appearance
They are a medium dog, growing up to 56cms tall. The British Kennel Club recognises over 50 breed standard colours including Blue Merle, Sable, Blue Tricolour and Gold.
Their gorgeous medium length coat makes them a gorgeous looking puppy and striking adult dogs.
Collie Grooming Requirements
Typically, their grooming requirements are fairly minimal. They will need weekly brushing to keep their beautiful coats looking their best.
They have a double coat which consists of 2 layers of fur. This means that they are much more protected from extreme temperatures. However, you need to make sure that you have a good hoover as this means they will usually shed twice a year.

Are Border Collies working dogs?
Due to their high intelligence, they are usually considered a great candidate for working dogs. Including jobs like sheep herding and search and rescue dogs.
Their beautiful appearance has also landed them many gigs in Hollywood. With their most recalled jobs being in ‘Babe’, the film about the pig learning to herd sheep.
Did you know?
They were originally bred for herding sheep.
Overall, they will be an extremely loyal furry family member. Early socialisation helps them become well-rounded and confident dogs. They will still prefer human company overall but tend to be happy to get along with other dogs (and even cats!).
This personable ball of fun will normally calm down slightly after the age of 3 but will always be full of energy.
