Forever Cavapoo

Looking for the perfect mix of pooch that enjoys cuddles and playtime?

This mixed-breed was originally bred in the 1950’s to provide a solution for dog lovers with allergies.

Although no breed is 100% hypoallergenic, the Cavapoo comes close thanks to being a cross breed of Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Did you know?

They are sometimes called Cavoodles!

The ‘designer’ breed became popular pretty quickly thanks to its affectionate and playful nature. Its low shedding tendency made owning a puppy a choice for many dog allergy sufferers.

A Cavapoo puppy is a perfect choice for families or first-time owners. They are friendly, obedient, and adaptable and usually do well with training. Don’t panic if your Cavapoo puppy takes a little longer than expected with toilet training. This is fairly common with the Cavapoo breed. Your patience and perseverance will pay off.

Although, they are energetic and very intelligent, so you’ll need to offer plenty of mental and physical stimulation.

The Cavapoo Appearence

This beautiful teddy bear looking breed can be a mix of sizes (dependent on the Poodle breed type of its parent). Although, they are more commonly bred from Mini poodles as opposed to Toy Poodles. This is because the Toy Poodle can have more health concerns thanks to a surge in its popularity.

Did you know?

The Cavapoo was deliberately first bred in Australia.

As well as having a mix of sizes, they can also be in a range of colours. From black Cavapoos to Red Cavapoos – this breed has a wide array of common colours. Including chestnut, chocolate, gold, cream, fawn and even being tricoloured.

Are all Cavapoos low shedding dogs?

No. They tend to have a low tendency for shedding thanks to their parent breeds. However, Cavapoo dogs that take after their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel parents will tend to have straight wavy coats. They will be more prone to shedding than those who take after their Poodle parents with wiry, curly hair.

Grooming Cavapoos

Regular brushing is heavily advised as this can help avoid their coats from knotting. Grooming often helps keep their coat in top condition and offers a perfect opportunity for bonding with your dog. They usually need regular professional grooming to keep their coats in great condition.

Did you know?

They surprisingly have quite a high prey drive. This is because they’re descendent of 2 hunting breeds.

It’s usually advised to trim their coats in the Summer to offer more opportunity for cooling. Please don’t forget to also offer plenty of shade and water when its warm.

What might be surprising is that even with their thick coats, they will still need to be kept warm in Winter. Using cosy jumpers for extra protection from the low temperatures.

Socialising your Cavapoo

It’s important to socialise your Cavapoo puppy early to ensure that they’re comfortable around people and other animals. As a breed, they are extremely social and often thrive in a pack like setting.

Your Cavapoo dog might struggle being away from you initially as they are prone to separation anxiety. Always build up to leaving them on their own for longer periods of time.

Overall, the Cavapoo can be a loyal and loving family pet. They will return any love you live them tenfold.
