Forever Jack Russell Terrier

Looking for a small dog with plenty of personality?

Jack Russel Terriers (sometimes called Parson Russell Terriers) are known to love being in the spotlight.

They're perfect pets to teach tricks to if you are a confident trainer.

This breed tends to be highly protective of their owners and will use their high level of intelligence to monitor the surroundings for any dangers.

They are known diggers (just like many other terrier breeds) and can dig a fair-sized hole in a relatively short period of time.

Top tip – it will be much easier to train your Jack Russell to dig in a specific area, rather than trying to break the digging habit altogether.

Did you know?

They’re actually classed as working dogs. They were originally bred to hunt foxes approximately 200 years ago.

What do you need to know about Jack Russells?

  • They’re full of energy!

This lively little pup will need plenty of exercise to burn through their endless energy. They would suit confident (or experienced) dog parents as they can be a handful.

  • Fearless Furry Friends

Although this can make them pretty good guard dogs – their fearless nature can sometimes put them in harms way. They are best suited to owners with a secure high-fenced garden so that they can’t escape.

Their natural urge to hunt will take over, so be careful when considering taking them off leash.

  • Affectionate Dogs

They will happily be affectionate with their owners and are known as a kid-friendly dog.

However, they can sometimes be cautious and nervous around other canines. It’s important that Jack Russells are socialised at an early age with other animals.

All around, this independent and clever little puppy can make an excellent addition to your family for the right parent.

Did you know?

Jack Russells can jump up to 5 foot in the air, even though they normally stand only 10-15 inches.

They need a tolerant owner who is happy to dedicate time to training and grooming them properly.

As part of maintaining their healthy coat, they will shed a lot. It’s a completely normal process, but does mean that their dog parents need a good hoover and time to dedicate to brushing regularly.

It’s not hard to see why their popularity spiked in 2020 as they battle their way back into the UK’s hearts.
