Their coats are medium and wiry with a thick undercoat which needs grooming every other day. They are often considered to be hypoallergenic and make great pet options for those with allergies.

Colours of the Miniature Schnauzer breed

The British Kennel Club only recognise 4 breed standard colours: black, black/silver, pepper/salt and white. However, you’ll often see many non-breed standard colours such as chocolate, liver or tan/white.

Miniature Schnauzer Temperament

This breed is full to the brim of personality – they make fun and rewarding companion canines. However they need mental stimulation to be happy. A bored Miniature Schnauzer is usually a disruptive dog. Things that can be included are things like food puzzles or toys designed to stimulate their minds. Although with training they can be left alone for short periods, they will usually want to accompany you everywhere in the house. Yes – even to the toilet!

Did you know?

Although they frequently make an appearance in historical records – their ancestry isn’t very clear.  Some believe the Schnauzer was crossed with the Affenpinscher. Whereas others believe it was crossed with dog breeds like the Pomeranian or Miniature Poodle.

Originally tasked with killing and keeping vermin away, they also guarded properties, drove cattle, and guarded flock. Their off the chart intelligence and guard nature made them excellent working dog candidates.
