Siberian Husky Appearance
This breed is known for their beautiful thick coat and can have a range of colours and markings. Some of the colours that can appear are gray, black, copper red or white.
Typically, Huskies are thought of as having piercing almond shaped blue eyes. However, they can also be brown, green, yellow or even multi-coloured.
This is caused by a rare gene called 'heterochromia'. It means that they will have two different coloured eyes. This gene is often hereditary meaning that any pups produced are more likely to carry this rare gene themselves.
Factors to consider if you’re looking to buy a Siberian Husky:
Huskies are known escape artists
- It’s important to have a high secure fence to make sure that Huskies are safe within gardens.
When Huskies are bored, they get into trouble
- Boredom often leads to non-desirable behaviour such as chewing furniture or digging in a garden. Top tip – It is much easier to encourage your Husky to dig in one designated place in your garden, rather than discouraging them from digging altogether.
Siberian Huskies should be kept on leash
- Their drive to hunt will kick in and lead them to chase smaller animals if let off the leash.
- Leash training is important for this pet. They are very curious pets so can wander off if let off leash.
They need an experienced or confidence owner
- They are incredibly intelligent and not very eager to please. So, although they have a huge capacity to learn they often are tricky to train.
- As they’re pack dogs, they need ‘Alpha’ owners who will stand up to their challenges.
Due to their beauty and popularity, it’s led to an increase in backyard puppy mills for Huskies. You should always see the puppy you’re buying in person where possible. Always ask to see the pup’s mother!
